Affordable Housing
"Affordable Housing" is a legal Planning legislation term. Information can be found on:-
www.shropshire.gov.uk/affordable-housing/types-of-affordable-housing/
www.shropshire.gov.uk/media/8593/adopted-type-and-affordability-of-housing-spd-2012.pdf
In summary, "Affordable Housing" usually has property sale values or rentals capped at about 80% of open market value in perpetuity, and can be any size or type to meet “identified local needs” and/or for people with strong “local connections” for the type & size of housing they require – e.g. starter, intermediate, house or bungalow.
Crucially "Affordable Housing" is different to developments of Open Market Housing being marketed for sale at an "affordable" price - which is just what the people can afford / or will pay and its value will fluctuate depending on the boom/bust cycle and difference between values here and other areas where people want to escape / retire from. There is no local connection requirement on Open Market Housing.
